There’s good smoke in the mountains…Pok-E Joe’s uses just the right amounts of seasoned oak and hickory to make our sweet smoke fragrance for our meats. Long before the party begins….Pok-E-Joe’s begins slowly smoking the meats at 190 to 210 degrees for 12 to 16 hours…yes, it’s a long time, but the flavor makes it absolutely worth it. Our spice rubs not only season the meat, it cures it too, developing a crust around each tender slice.

The attention to detail that goes into the creation of Pok-E-Joe’s first attracted the attention of Lynchburgians when Hughes and Randolph started selling their barbecue on the side of the road. However, it was Daryl Burgess, vice president of Quik-E-Food stores, who liked Pok-E-Joe’s so much that he asked Hughes and Randolph to move their business inside of the Chevron.
