There are lots of great places to get great food in the area but some are better known than others.
Here are a few word-of-mouth places where you can find yummy stuff. Please leave your own nominees.
Markham Produce
While not a complete secret, many people might ignore the small, nondescript white building on Forest Rd. and drive right by some great produce bargains. The slicer tomatoes here are a big draw as the price is the best in town.
Texas Inn
Affectionately known as the T Room or the Texas Tavern, the Texas Inn is famous for it’s Westerns, which is a hamburger topped with a fried egg. Add cheese and you get a cheesy Western. Local know the special lingo for ordering here, like “double all the way” and a “bowl with flowers.”

I would have to add to the list Moore’s country store. Their hot dogs are legendary as well as there Melissa burgers. They are located on 460 near Mt Athos, and at the Farmer’s Market in downtown Lynchburg.
Yes…Moore’s country store for sure for famous hot dogs!
