Description
The Jefferson Choral Society’s upcoming season will mark its 19th year of providing unparralleled performances of great choral music. Since its founding, JCS has remained true to its mission:
- To serve the Central Virginia community by presenting masterworks of great choral music
- To provide area singers with opportunities to perform classic works from all periods of music
- To encourage vocal arts in young people
This year JCS is partnering with Cantate, the Children’s Choir of Central Virginia, to further showcase this group of highly talented young singers and to add a new dimension to JCS concerts. Outreach initiatives are also underway with area public and private schools to foster knowledge and appreciation of choral singing.
One of the most widely traveled vocal groups in Virginia, JCS has toured Europe five time and sang at Leeds Castle in Kent County, England for the British July 4, 2007 festivities. The chorus also presented concerts in Edinburgh, Scotland and Gravesend, Canterbury. At home, the chorus has performed at the National Cathedral in Washington, D.C.; Carnegie Hall, New York City; Bruton Parish Church, Williamsburg; and in Wintergreen Summer Concert Programs.
For the past seven years, JCS has presented benefit concerts for the Bedford D-Day Memorial, paying tribute to all veterans who have fought to preserve America’s freedom.
