The Bedford Avenue Meat Shop is a true gift for those Lynchburg residents who are underwhelmed by the meats offered by the local grocery chains. In addition to being a long-awaited butcher shop, they offer gourmet and prepared food choices. Among the specialty items are organic eggs, local cheeses, hummus, pate, breads and coffee – and you absolutely must try their barbecue… that smoker produces some mean ribs!
The shop was opened by Stella Freeo and Breeland Sandoff in mid-2009, with a mission to “provide food the way nature intended.” Amanda Sandos published an in-depth article about them on The Got2BeGreen website, which is well worth the read: www.got2begreen.com/green-lifestyles/lycnhburg-boasts-first-green-butcher-shop.
The shop is located just a block off Rivermont Avenue, near The Blue Marlin and Magnolia Foods. For information about hours of operation, etc., visit their Burgbuzz restaurant listing: www.burgbuzz.com/bedford-avenue-meat-shop.
